| | Sunday, Mark Sedotti, Lee Price and I tried Capps Creek. The creek was as busy as Roaring River on a late afternoon. We walked downstream past the noticeable paths. At the first pool, I stayed and Lee directed Mark downstream to a larger area. I tried a damsel nymph w/o a hit. I added a size 10 Prince Nymph tied by Lee. On the first cast I had a hard hit. I... |

| | I tried fishing Crane Creek this morning between the 413 bridge and below the RR bridge downstream from the park. Except for one 8" rainbow, the most interesting encounters were with a beaver and a deer. The water is looking good, but the flow is very strong and makes it dangerous to move from one spot to another without getting back from the creek and hiking to the... |

| | The storms last weekend flooded Crane Creek over the bridge on the lower section. The intermittent spring at the upper parking lot was flowing strong. The city park was closed because of debris. Almost all the trash is downstream. The only items left are tires. |

| | Well, Wilma and I went down to ROLF Friday evening to check the place out. We camped Friday night and fished on Saturday. We just waded the ROLF water. Just enjoying the relative privacy and the scenery and good weather, we got bogged down between riffles and ended up fishing a lot of dead water we should have bypassed. I ended up landing 1 of 4 trout that I had on. The other 3 were only on briefly...not... |

| | Ken and I returned to Taney for another try for one of the big ones. We stuck with using grasshoppers or sculpins hoping to get a trophy. The area at the lower steps under the trees had a concentration of large browns and rainbows. We caught several above average fish. Several browns jumped clear of the water and I swore they were as long as my leg, 30" inseam. ... |

| | Holy cow! In over a decade of fishing Taneycomo every Fall, I have never seen this many HUGE fish up in the tailwater. But I've also never seen so many anglers packed in there on a weekday, either. Hard to find a parking spot!
I hooked a 12-16 lb Brown that was just plain scary. But about 5-10 minutes into the ordeal, they blew the horn to start generation and LTW was ready to head for the house... |

| | Fished about 6 hours/day all 3 days. Fished Wildcat, Cotter, and BS State Park. Wading only. Got skunked in 2 hours of fishing @ Wildcat. I was only there because it was close to where I had to be at Noon. It would not have been my choice otherwise. Picked up 3 average Rainbows at Cotter in about 4 hours of fishing. Again, it was close AFTER my Noon appointment... |

| | Drove up to Bennett Springs this afternoon and fished from 4-7pm. Every time I go up there they are running that damned mower! LOL
Grass and sticks and all sorts of muck in the water...again. There were also more people there fishing than I expected.
So I tied on a size 10 yellow grasshopper and really put a spanking on them. After about 15 trout landed and about... |

| | Spent the week of the 4th with my dad at Witch Bay on Lake of the Woods, about 20 miles from Kenora, Ontario.
We boated maybe 70 or 80 fish a day, mostly walleye, but also smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. I fished both with spinning/casting gear as well as fly gear. I have posted a picture of a Northern I caught on a chartreuse double bunny in the trophy room (optimistic for... |

| | Fished Friday night.. well, Saturday morning from midnight until 3am. Met with some of the "night time on Taney" regulars. The shut down to 0 units at midnight and I stared up at outlet 1. Got a couple of hookups, one nice fish, but they spit the fly back at me. Finally, got into some fish downstream from outlet 1. Brought 7 to hand in the 14-17 inch range. ... |

| | Fished from 8am to noon. Fishing was a bit slow but managed to pick up 8 before it was over. As scheduled, the horn went off at noon.
The fog on the water stayed until almost 10 am then left when the wind picked up. Great conditions for fishing, but they just didn't seem to care for my fly selection... |

| | I got to Taney last Friday night around 7pm after looking at the generation schedule which indicated they were going to shut the water off at that time. Well, they were an hour late, but that gave me time to talk to a couple of fishing buddies at the pavillion before gearing up and getting to business.
Entered the water below the steps and picked up a fish on the first couple of casts. ... |

| | Wow! What a great trip. One of my best ever...period...bar none. Just what the doctor ordered.
I camped Sun-Tues and there were a total of 2 guys sharing 1 pop-up in the campground other than me. The campground is right at Tan Vat. I'm sure many of you know it.
I waded and fished 2.5 mi of river from Montauk SP to Baptist over 3 days and saw a whopping total of 5 other... |

| | What is up with Capps Creek?
I've been down there twice. Once in winter and again yesterday. This has been my experience/observation:
1. This is gorgeous little creek with a very "natural" sort of feel to it.
2. It reminds me of a tiny Spring River below Mammoth Springs.
3. It is BUSTING with minnows, crayfish, mayflies of several types, and midges.
I was in the... |

| | I met up with Leonard Keany at Taney Friday morning. There were two units running when we started, but about 9am, the water started going down. I noticed some fish midging across from Outlet 1 so we started wading toward them casting streamers. Finally, after we both changed flies about 5 or 6 times, Leonard keyed in on a pattern that we both started pitching and bringing fish in. ... |

| | I am hearing rumors that a few fellas are catching some white bass in the feeder creeks and coves in lower Taneycomo and...for the first time in 3 years...in Swan Creek at Forsyth on Upper Bull Shoals.
I also just got a full-blown email report of 3-4 limits of white bass per angler being caught on the Little Sac above Taylor this week. |
|
| | | | |
|
| | Fished the Little Sac above Taylor Bridge 4/22 and got skunked. The river was barely wadable, with wading access only at the power line crossing and boat launch under the bridge. No other fly fishers seen, although two Spring Creek Outfitters drift boats cruised upstream past me in early AM (they will probably report catching lots of white bass). No obvious signs of anyone having great... |

| | Fished Crane Creek this afternoon in the Wire Road CA below town. Got there about 4 and fished until 7. I caught a 12" Rainbow right away and a 14" a few minutes later. A couple of casts later, I lost my last fly of the type they were attacking. I only had 2 with me...oops. Saw 3-4 more trout, but couldn't get them to pay attention. And I didn't see the otter today. Water was clearing today...still... |

| | No generation this afternoon. Fished just above the MDC boat ramp from 3 til dark. They started 2 gens just as I opened the trunk of my car to start stowing gear to leave.
Mayfly hatch was going on. March Browns and some unidentified Baetis. The fish weren't keying on the March Browns. My size 12 parachute Adams were ignored. Went to a size 16 with an olive... |

| | I started below the bridge in the lower WRCA and walked about a mile downstream and then fished my way back up. I saw a few flashes of small fish feeding along the bottom in deeper pools in the main current. Could not ID them as trout. Didn't catch any. I watched a young river otter catch several fish in a 10 minute feeding period, but he was feeding when I first saw him. ... |
